The Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB) made a key contribution in 1994 to founding the Leopold Museum Private Foundation. The exhibition “Premiere!”, on view at the Leopold Museum, pays tribute to this long-standing connection and, for the first time, presents the full breadth of the OeNB art collection. Since the late 1980s, the OeNB has collected Austrian painting and sculpture from 1918 to the present, focusing on the interwar period and abstraction after 1945. Works by Rudolf Wacker and Franz Sedlacek are shown alongside distinctive voices such as Greta Freist and Max Oppenheimer. Post-1945, compelling dialogues emerge between generations, for example Maria Lassnig and Tobias Pils. The selection is rounded out by strong abstract painting and chosen sculptural works.
