Beethoven Special "3 for 2"

As of May 29th until December 26th, 2020 you can sleep in all room categories at a very special rate. Book 2 nights and extend another night FREE – at no extra charge! Enjoy a glass of sparkling wine as a warm welcome and a one-time free admission to the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna.

The Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna presents, in cooperation with the Archive of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna, an unusual homage to Ludwig van Beethoven (1770–1827).

His universal and unique reception, the epochal significance of his music, but also the perception of his deified persona, create numerous entry points; high and popular culture, commerce and politics all form an inexhaustible reservoir for inspiration and appropriation.

The exhibition brings together paintings by Caspar David Friedrich, sketchbooks by J. M. W. Turner, graphic works by Francisco de Goya, Anselm Kiefer and Jorinde Voigt, sculptures by Auguste Rodin, Rebecca Horn and a new work developed for the exhibition by Tino Sehgal, a video by Guido van der Werve and much more, all of which are brought into dialogue with the music and persona of Beethoven. The exhibition will thus build a bridge with the present: masterpieces of fine art form connections with music and silence.

This promotion can be booked for all room categories and is valid for single or double occupancy! Reservations can be cancelled until 48 hours upon arrival. In case of no-show or cancellation after that period the rate for the first night will be charged. Rooms are subject to availability! Offer is only valid when you book directly through us.

Employee of the year 2019

From far away Sri Lanka to his beloved new home in Vienna, our employee of the year 2019 is Venura.

1) How did you come to the Hotel Beethoven?
I started 10 years ago as a night porter for 2 nights a week. One year later it was full-time and in 2015 I started early duty at the reception.

2) What do you love at Hotel Beethoven?
That it is a family-run hotel, the Ludwig family is great. You can make short arrangements with Mrs. Ludwig and find solutions for the guests very quickly and flexibly. The team spirit is a big plus at the hotel. We get on very well with each other and also go out together after work. When deciding on new team members, we are also actively involved in the process. And thanks to the early shift I also have enough time for my family and my little daughter.
The concept of the hotel is very good and I like the upscale category and the size. One feels so personally taken care of, not like in a chain hotel.

3) What do you love about Vienna?
In 2000 I came to Vienna from Sri Lanka. I simply love Vienna. The city is as quiet as a temple. In Sri Lanka I lived in Colombo and it was loud, loud, loud. This silence is wonderful. We will stay safely in Vienna, this is my new home.

4) What is a must- see in Vienna?
Of course I like to visit all the classic sights with my private guests, but my favourite is the salt cave in Hinterbrühl.  The boat trip in the cave is a highlight for me and my family and also for friends visiting from Sri Lanka.

5) What was your best experience in Vienna so far?
Definitely the birth of my daughter.

6) What do you love about your job?
The guests, I like to talk to the guests. The openness in this job. I also hold Mrs. Ludwig in high esteem. She is like a second mum, she has helped me a lot in my life. You can talk to her about everything and always find a good solution.
The working hours also suit me very well as a family man, I can do a lot with my daughter.

7) What is your favourite place in Vienna?
I like the Stephansplatz very much, it is a very special place. I also feel very comfortable in Grinzing, in the vineyards.

8) Favorite restaurant /hangout?
To relax and unwind my favourite sport to watch is cricket which is unfortunately not very common in Austria, nevertheless, we found a good place to watch our sport: The "Pointers", a classic Irish Pub, cricket fans included!
I can enjoy a favourite taste of my home cuisine Sri Lanka at "Colombo Hoppers" on the Schönbrunner Strasse, in the 5th district.

New opening and premiere.

LVDWIG - the Viennese bar at the Naschmarkt.

Mid-January 2020 opened a new center for connoisseurs, the design-savvy crowd, individualists, hedonists and people who love life: A VIENNESE BAR - THE LVDWIG.

With the architect Gregor Eichinger and the international eating experience designer Ido Garini, the gastronomes Barbara Ludwig and Paul Rittenauer pay homage to the traditional bar culture, combined with spirit of the time design.

The Naschmarkt has always been a hub of exotic culinary delights combined with a traditional down to earth outlook on life and local flavor. A mission statement for the development of the "LVDWIG". In its tradition and function, especially in the Biedermeier, the Viennese coffeehouse was almost equivalent to an American "Speakeasy bar" - this is the idea used for the LVDWIG.

The LVDWIG is located in the building of the boutique hotel "Beethoven" opposite the Papagenotor at the Theater an der Wien. However, with its own entrance and a clear direction, the LVDWIG cannot be incorporated into the learned categories of hotel bars. The entrepreneur Barbara Ludwig, who has been managing the "Beethoven" since 2009 came up with the idea: "For me, the Beethoven anniversary year 2020 and the upcoming 10th anniversary of the Hotel Beethoven were the incentives to set up something completely new - something that combines the character of the Hotel and the surrounding area - the LVDWIG was the goal of a long journey of ideas. "

Beethoven's Salon Concerts

Music belongs to Vienna as music belongs to Beethoven. We love this tradition and organize concerts every weekend with chamber music at the highest level, featuring none other than, Viennese classics.
Michael Babytsch on cello and Pavlo Kachnov on the piano are highly talented musicians who present works by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and other famous composers.
A complimentary glass of champagne is served during intermission. By the way, our Bösendorfer grand piano used to belong to Ms. Ludwig’s mother Sissy, a great pianist.
Enjoy a relaxed intimate evening. All hotels guests are welcome.

4-star hotel situated on Vienna’s Naschmarkt

The location of the Hotel on the Naschmarkt allows Vienna aficionados to dive right into a typical Viennese lifestyle. The market, with its dozens of little stalls and selection of fresh fruit, vegetables and specialities, is a colourful and lively snapshot of Vienna, even more varied on Saturdays, with the farmers' and flea market. Both on the market itself and the areas around it, a trendy restaurant and bar scene has developed.

Commitment to culture

The culturally committed Ludwig family, who own the hotel, sponsor numerous Viennese cultural institutions, such as the Albertina, the Mumok and the Musikverein and inspire Vienna aficionados to special cultural delights: invitations to previews, exhibition openings, museum visits and preferential ticket orders at the Musikverein.

Quiet location near the Vienna Secession

The Beethoven is an elegant, 6-storey, historic building, constructed in 1902 in the Neorenaissance style, on the nowadays traffic-calmed Papagenogasse. Vienna aficionados will feel at home in the peaceful, tastefully furnished rooms, amidst the pulsating life of Vienna’s cultural and culinary heart.

Interview Barbara Ludwig

Which room is your favorite?

The "Berta Zuckerkandl room", dedicated to a free spirited woman with a big heart.

This room is on the floor featuring strong women at the turn of the century. Because of their similar character - compassionate and at times impulsive - this historic figure reminds me of my mother.  Anecdotes exist for both women, their joy of life, spontaneity and their unconventional approach.
